"The faculty and administration of Ashford School believe that our school's primary responsibility is to guide each student toward self-awareness, school responsibility, and cultural and intellectual growth. To accomplish this, we believe in emphasizing the basic skills in all subject areas as defined by the
various departments of instruction. Also, to prepare students for social as well as academic growth, we believe in granting students realistic opportunities to exercise self-discipline, mutual respect, and responsibility to the school and to themselves. Our commitment is best met in a pleasant atmosphere
that encourages individuality balanced with conformity, while providing judicious guidelines for student behavior.
Because we live in a constantly changing world, the school must be flexible enough to allow our young people to cope with the sometimes joyful and sometimes painful transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. Aware, also, that children learn in various ways, we provide opportunities for learning that honor individual interests and learning styles. Recognizing that the school is not the only institution for education, we encourage open discourse with all concerned parents, citizens, and community groups. By providing many kinds of learning situations, both curricular and extracurricular, we hope each student will experience academic success, creative fulfillment, and the joy of living and
learning with others.
