Day in the Life

General School Mission

Denver International School is an independent school that fulfills the highest educational standards of the United States, China, France, Spain and other countries by offering early immersion bilingual international education, accredited by participating governments, in order to prepare its students to thrive in a diverse and competitive global society.

A Typical Day

Our Pre-K and Kindergarten programs follow a routine that is structured, well-organized and predictable. Our little ones go through their daily activities in a consistent order: arrival, wash hands, circle time, exploratory pursuits, clean up, wash hands, snack, learning centers (pre-reading, early math, art, sensory tables and dough, crafts, block building, games, puzzles, etc.) and outdoor time. Afternoons consist of nap/quiet time and engagement in art, music, ballet, dance, dramatic plays, birthday or holiday celebrations and social interactions with other classes and/or grades. The length of any of these activities is flexible, depending on the engagement level of the children, weather conditions or the emergence of “teachable moments.” At the end of the day, they will be happy and ready to reunite with family or join our extended day care program.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

DIS’ primary mechanism of communication is a weekly newsletter – the Friday Folder, containing a weekly newsletter, info on programs & extra-curricular activities, fund-raising bulletins & other important announcements. Individual teachers also send daily updates and/or weekly newsletters to families.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Parents in classroom early on
