Other subjects taught French -- but the children don't even realize it! The teachers interact with the children and each other in French, and even non-French speaking children are comprehending, listening to stories, doing art projects, playing hide-and-seek, etc, in French within a few weeks-months.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

We send home newsletters every few weeks with upcoming lesson plans, lyrics to songs, descriptions of themes and activities, and snack menu. Most communication is by e-mail or phone, and teacher-parent and director-parent discussions are welcomed anytime. Parent-teacher meetings are called anytime by parents.

Parents Say They are Encouraged to:

  • Hold social events at the school to build community
  • Are able to visit the school anytime we want
  • Go on field trips
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Receive newsletters

Separation

Separation is Handled through:

  • Parents in classroom early on

Handling Separation: From the Director

We respect that each child, family, and circumstance is different. We expect a parent to stay for the first entire day to acclimate the child to the surroundings and people. After that, it is at the discretion of parents, in conversation with the teachers. Some parents stay for a while, gradually leaving for longer and longer periods. Others prefer to "rip the band-aid" and leave quickly. By tailoring it to the separation style of each child, we have found that we have relatively little crying and anxiety over separation.
