I have two children who have been enrolled in Tuvia for the past three school years. Based on my experience and my children's experience at Tuvia, I have found it to be a wonderful pre-school and give it "top marks." FACILITY: well-maintained, safe, and very clean (quite a feat, considering it is full of energetic kids). It could use some upgrades on the playground. STAFF (e.g., teachers, assistants, directors): friendly, warm, accomplished, creative, well-trained professionals who are truly concerned about providing a good learning environment for the children, and really care about the kids and their families. The director, Leah, is amazing; she closely monitors every aspect of the school, and keeps parents informed. She has great interpersonal skills (important when telling a parent about his child's behavior issues), and is always available to listen or provide valuable input. I wish some of the staff members used better grammar, but in today's society, bad grammar is rampant, and I am tilting at windmills. CURRICULUM: Tuvia's approach is considered "developmental," which does not focus on rote/ hardcore academics as much as I would want, but apparently, my thinking on this issue is in the Dark Ages, so I am keeping my mouth shut. Even so, my children are learning Hebrew and Spanish, as well as standard fundamentals for kindergarten readiness, and important social skills. Tuvia also offers interesting enrichment courses, e.g., music, science. SAFETY: I feel confident that my children are very safe at Tuvia. Strangers would be noticed and questioned (by staff, as well as by parents). Children would be hard-pressed to leave the premises; there are many watchful eyes who would take action. COMMUNITY: heavy parent involvement; classroom havurahs; emphasis on charity (tzedakah & tikkun olam). My children love attending Tuvia, and have formed friendships which have lasted since their first days there. The school offers the feeling of family. Eventually, my children will have to attend another school, but I doubt it will be one we can trust and love as we do Tuvia.
