Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Teacher-Led

From the Director:

Lots of love and enthusiasm... and trust your gut! Raising children isn’t easy but it can be very rewarding. Providing kids with a stimulating, encouraging, and fun atmosphere is our goal. We want to be silly and creative. We know how to maintain limits and be consistent. We eat healthy AND delicious food so that our tongues can be tickled and our bodies can protect themselves. Our home has become a place for families to meet and friendships to blossom. Our curriculum is rooted in the standards, but flexible enough to account for a change in the weather, an interesting tangent, or the whims of a child.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

The beauty of having a "small" group is we get to know our children extremely well, which allows for differentiated instruction. Also, we don't separate our kids by age (as most schools do) as we feel that the younger kids learn language, gross motor skills, and imaginary play easier and faster, when working with older kids. The older kids, in-turn learn empathy, patience, and get to appreciate being "the big kids".

Day in the Life

A Typical Day

Give us a call and we'll be happy to walk you through it!

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Our goal is to prepare kids for kindergarten, while having a lot of fun on the way. We offer daily written reports and take the time to engage parents on a daily basis at drop-off and pick-up. We also have annual 2 hour conferences where we discuss goals, anecdotes, progress, and any other issues, including challenges at home. It really depends on what the parents want to put on the table, as we respect everyone's privacy first and foremost.

Parents Say They are Encouraged to:

  • Hold social events at the school to build community
  • Fundraise
  • Are able to visit the school anytime we want

Modes of Communication

  • Notes
  • Phone Calls
  • Voice Mail
  • Email
  • Special Meetings
  • Two or More Regular Conferences
  • Drop-Off
  • Pick-Up
  • Regular newsletter/printed updates circulated to the whole school

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school

Handling Separation: From the Director

We have tried several methods of handling the separation issue. It the spirit of "keeping it real" we are "rip the band-aid off" kind of people. We believe and have witnessed that separation anxiety doesn't last too long, if we and the parents are consistent and communicate. Some of our most separation-challenged kids have gone on to become some of the most amazing members of our community.
