Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Montessori

From the Director:

Northern Light School offers a Montessori pre-school environment. The Montessori classroom is designed to help children develop a joy for learning and discovery. The environment allows each child to develop at his or her own pace in several areas of study which include practical life, sensorial, language, math, science, geography and cultural subjects, art, and grace and courtesy. The activities in each of these areas aim to assist each child in acquiring independence, concentration, coordination and self-confidence. Extracted from www.northernlightschool.com

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Northern Light School is committed to providing a high quality education for children from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, especially those who would not have the opportunity for a private school education. The faculty and staff create an atmosphere in which every child can grow academically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, to become healthy, productive members of their families and communities.

The focus is on excellence in teaching basic academics as well as non-violence, acceptance of differences, respect for the environment, and the moral advancement of humanity--so that the children develop an understanding that they have a responsibility to make a difference in the lives of others.
