From the Director:

At Horizon School, we provide a loving and caring environment where every child is actively involved in the learning process. The teachers prepare exciting learning centers that stimulate a child's sense of exploration and discovery.
Our integrated, thematic curriculum stresses hand-on, child-initiated activities, which stimulate and encourage the development of language, cognitive, physical, emotional and social skills. These activities, which are both age appropriate and individualized, help children develop a love for self, other, the world and learning. Extracted from Horizon School's website (3/15/06).

Day in the Life

General School Mission

At Horizon, our philosophy is to provide a comfortable, stimulating and caring atmosphere for the younger learner. We believe in providing a variety of experiences, which allow the child to learn by doing. We believe that young children learn best through their five senses - they see, hear, smell, touch and taste. When they are given the opportunity to manipulate and explore things in their own way, their awareness and understanding of the world is enriched. Our program is based on the philosophy that each child is unique. By respecting his/her right to be different, and loving him/her for himself/herself, the child is encouraged to develop to his/her full potential. Extracted from Horizon School's website (3/15/06).

A Typical Day

Each day includes activities that help children develop of love for learning. The preschool program has a broad-based curriculum that incorporates children's stories, language development, science, pre-reading, pre-math, music, art and social development. Daily activities encourage self-esteem, creative expression and the development of self-help skills.
The children are encouraged to develop their creative interests by choosing from a variety of stimulating activities in our dramatic play and art areas. Gross and fine motor skills are developed through outdoor play, art projects, use of manipulatives and other fun activities.
Preschoolers are introduced to computers through developmentally appropriate software that is open-ended and calls for thinking and active problem solving. The software allows the children to determine the pace and direction of the experience and use creativity.
Extracted from Horizon School's website (3/15/06).
