Day in the Life

General School Mission

Philosophy of Kids Place in Novato, Ca

Our goal is to provide a stimulating and nurturing early childhood experience that combines the warm atmosphere of home with the variety of experiences of a school. Our curriculum is child-centered and project-based. Our teachers lead developmentally appropriate activities to encourage the children to expand their horizons and develop their full potential. We create an environment that fosters curiosity and growth with stimulating toys and learning materials. We place heavy emphasis on the importance of play as a vital element of early childhood education. Teachers make preparations and plan activities in response to these goals. The curriculum is not established in advance; rather it emerges in the process of each activity and project. We want our students to develop powers of self-confidence, independence, motivation and social responsibility. One of the most important ways this is learned is through healthy social interactions and play. Communication is the foundation and strength of our program, and we view our partnership with parents as an essential building block to learning challenges for each child.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Parents in classroom early on
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

We are a smaller preschool which offers small ratios and a lot of individual attention. We seem to have less separation anxiety than most.
