School Philosophy

From the Director:

"Academic, Spiritual, and Social Growth for Each Individual Child Eitz Chaim is a non-profit school offering preschool through eighth grade instruction. Eitz Chaim is located in Los Gatos and attracts students from San Jose, Santa Cruz, Sunnyvale, and Palo Alto. The school is located on the spacious and scenic campus of Shir Hadash, which provides classrooms, a playground, and a social hall. Our goal is to encourage and nurture the whole child. This means we address the creative, spiritual, and social growth of children, as well as their intellectual and academic growth. We want to prepare them to emerge into adulthood as healthy, contributing members of the world community." Extracted from www.eitzchaim.org

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"A Committment to Academic Excellence and Character Development

Our goal is to encourage and nurture the whole child. This means we address the creative, spiritual and social growth of children, as well as their intellectual and academic growth.

We encourage
- Knowledge and pride in Jewish heritage
- Active, self-directed and self-paced learning
- Self-esteem enhancement
- Character development focusing on:
- Respect, acceptance and trust
- Individual responsibility
- Communication skills
- Cooperation and group collaboration
- Independence
- Problem solving and conflict solving

We believe all goals and values can be achieved by making Torah an integral part of the children's education. Therefore, we incorporate Torah principles into curriculum and daily school activities. We welcome children from all levels of observance. Regardless of background, students develop Hebrew and textual skills.

All grades offer individualized attention for each child's needs. We approach each child as possessing unique creative and problem solving skills. Through this approach, teachers work in partnership with students to master the building block skills that are the foundation of future learning. The small groups provide each child the opportunity to develop strong skills in language and arithmetic.

Our Families Are Our Strength

Eitz Chaim is a community of families from all levels of observance dedicated to the highest quality education and socialization for our children. Parental involvement is cornerstone. Parents chaperone field trips, organize and plan fundraisers, and participate closely with their child throughout the year. We also encourage parents to become active in their child's education: if a parent has an issue, we welcome questions to teachers or the administration. Because the school itself is like a family, all the children look out for one another, and help each other."
