Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

From the Director:

Smart Start has a hands on approach to learning, through sensory art, music and tactile instruction. Smart Start works closely with the elementary schools in our area and the expectations they have with incoming students. Academics are introduced in a fun and uplifting way.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Smart Start has a base yearly curriculum. We take it one step further and individualize this on a daily basis, to meet the needs of all of our students.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

After the director was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in March of 2009, we as a staff looked into making some big lifestyle changes. These changes have now made it to or school philosophy. Smart Start believes that developing the "Whole" child involves a healthy learning environment. Smart Start is the first "Green" school in our area, complete with solar panels and organic school t-shirts and a shoe free policy in our classes. Organic and all natural cooking ingredients are used as well as non-toxic cleaning and art supplies. "Changing the World, One Child at a Time."

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

As a "Green" school we communicate through email, via the teachers and parents and with our monthly newsletters and calendar. At the end of the day we also include a white board with the days activities written out so all of our parents know what their student accomplished.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Home visits by teachers
  • Parents in classroom early on

Handling Separation: From the Director

Our staff hold and hug them as they adjust.
