Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Since we are a small home-based program, we care deeply about our children and develop a strong attachment. As a result, we are as deeply invested in the success of the children as the families are and we work with the families as well as the children to help them be prepared in every way we can conceive. If we see a child struggling in a certain area we work together, we break into small groups, we focus and we put every ounce of creative energy we can come up with into bringing that child up to par with the other children and to where that child NEEDS to be to be successful in school. With our children that are clearly excelling, we work with them where they are at by challenging them on their areas of weakness and allowing them to shine on their strengths also bringing up the other children in the class to a higher level of learning.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Play 2 Learn is child-centered. We believe that young children learn best through hands-on, playful interactions. We strive to create an environment where learning is fun and educational. We create our own lesson plans to stimulate children's senses, feelings, and intellect. Our goal is to offer your children the opportunity to enjoy childhood while developing a love of learning and preparing them with the skills necessary to enter Kindergarten.

Handling Separation: From the Director

We work with the parents as they know their child better than anyone else. We ask parents what their comfort level is, how long to allow the child to cry, how long to attempt distraction. Then we work on those parameters. We encourage the child to be our "helper" feeding our classroom critters, or setting up art projects or even selecting stories. We give hugs, cuddles and ensure the safety of the child above all else. So far, we've not had to call a family member back to pick up the child. Also, the other children in the program care for and attend to the child who is anxious so that helps tremendously.
