"We at World Class Montessori have a great desire to provide the true Montessori Method to children here in San Diego. This is the Method as we have been trained: Children need an interactive, hands-on, educational environment to become self-motivated and successful learners. Here, children are free to explore with their senses to fully understand the world around them. Interaction with their peers in a real life community is necessary. Children require ample time and space to practice and perfect their abilities. The Montessori materials provide children with a variety of interactive experiences including learning activities of practical life, sensorial, language and math. Dr. Montessori found that children need more than just academics, they need to be allowed to explore their world and society. We allow this exploration through practical life and the sensorial materials. Practical Life materials start with the basic activities of learning to pour and open or close boxes and progress to the more advanced activities of washing a table, ironing cloths and preparing meals. This is a vital part of the classroom, allowing children to learn how to take care of themselves and their environment, the first in many steps towards independence. The Sensorial materials are introduced when the child is feeling secure and comfortable in his environment. These materials isolate qualities used by our senses. For instance the geometric solids are the same color and size but the child can isolate the shape of sphere versus rectangular prism and therefore understand those geometric shapes better. Of course we also teach basic to advanced math concepts and the children learn to write and read but all of this is done with hands on materials to better impress these academics upon the child. Through these materials and specially Montessori-trained teachers our classrooms allow for the discovery of individual, social, academic and artistic qualities"
