"To teach preschool children how to be caring citizens of a compassionate community by providing a balanced program that develops mind, body and spirit.
St. Stephen's Preschool is a not-for-profit preschool that is intentional about its mission to be a compassionate community. Compassionate Community is reflected in the following ways:
We are a full-inclusion preschool, meaning that we enroll special needs children in our program as best as we can, given the limitations of our program and facility.
We welcome children and families of all faiths into our community, but we do expect that our Christian tradition be respected.
Every relationship at the school should embrace the concept of Compassionate Community, including Staff/Child, Staff/Parent, Staff/Staff, and Parent/Child relationships. At St. Stephen's Preschool, everyone is expected to behave compassionately toward others.
St. Stephen's Preschool seeks to prepare Elk Grove and Laguna Creek preschoolers for elementary school by providing them with quality instruction that nurtures the whole child in areas of academic, social and emotional development. Activities are offered in teacher-centered and learner-centered settings. The daily schedule allows both structured and free-choice activities.
Specifically, St. Stephen's Preschool accomplishes its mission by:
Providing developmentally-appropriate activities that provide children with opportunities to plan, explore, create, discover, express, listen and learn.
Recognizing that children grow and develop at different rates and encouraging students to investigate challenging activities which will help develop their abilities.
Helping children understand rules and limits and to practice fair play.
Encouraging sharing, turn-taking, making friends, cooperating, resolving conflicts, safety, and recognizing and accepting others.
Encouraging verbal expression of thoughts and feelings and accepting emotions in others. Children will be helped to learn the perspectives of others.
Encouraging large muscle activities both indoors and out, fine muscle coordination, and health awareness.
