The Mulberry School is a private preschool located in a quiet Berkeley hills neighborhood. It is a child centered learning environment in which children build skills, form positive relationships and gain confidence as they transition from home to school.

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Our dedicated staff is team oriented. We meet daily after school to discuss all aspects of The Mulberry School, including individual children and their families, our emergent curriculum and its implementation, upcoming events and parent teacher conferences. Our teachers regularly attend continuing education classes and seminars and are all child CPR and First Aid certified. We enjoy and outstanding record of staff retention.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

We are a play-based preschool with an indoor/outdoor program. The Mulberry School children have a wide range of choices when they enter school in the morning. Indoors they may choose to paint at an easel, engage in one of the art, science or cooking projects, play with large and or small hand toys, engage in dramatic play or simply sit in the library and hear a story. They may also choose to go outdoors where they may paint or draw, dig, plant or water, run, jump, skip, climb, slide or bounce. Our philosophy has been influenced by the work of Magda Gerber, Piaget, Rudolf Steiner and the Reggio Emilia approach.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

New families receive a detailed Parent Handbook. They may attend the yearly open house in July. Scheduled Parent/Teacher conferences take place after school from October thru December. There are daily opportunities for parents and teachers to interact throughout the school year.

Handling Separation: From the Director

Our teacher to child ratio ( 1 to 5) enables teachers to have a one on one relationship with a child who is having separation difficulties.
