Other subjects taught We focus a lot on social skills, because children with strong social skills will have more fun and less stress throughout both school and life. Within the classroom, we utilize Second Step to help kids identify and deal with emotions. We also spend a lot of time building relationships amongst kids and teachers. Outside of the classroom, we visit the community as much as possible. We take many field trips and even have the opportunity for kids to ride the Arcata bus to the Judo Hut for gymnastics. We are always looking for new ideas for ways to make connections!

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

We do our best to staff 4 teachers plus an administrator for up-to-24 children. The low ratios give us more time to connect with kids. Our teachers also have a variety of personalities and educational backgrounds so that we might connect with kids' unique personalities.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

" It is our belief that children learn best when they are provided with an opportunity to freely explore and interact within a stimulating environment. Indoor and outdoor activities are provided to include integrated experiences in creative and language arts, science, emotional and social skills, sensory exploration and self-help skills."

Separation is Handled through:

  • Small group sessions
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Handling Separation: From the Director

We find kids do best with quick drop offs at the beginning of the school experience, so that children have a chance to jump into play and build relationships with new people. The more you trust us, the more your kids will, too! Once children are settled, we love to have families come into the classroom to volunteer and visit!
