School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

From the Director:

The Alameda and Recreation Department offers a Tiny Tot/Small Fry recreational program for children ages 3 to 5 (pre-K). The program is play based with activities including storytelling, games, cooking, music, motor fitness, arts and crafts and free play. We offer the child can a place where they can explore the world they live in a positive and caring environment. A child’s job is to play and they learn through play.

From the Director:

6 sites - activities vary with site and instructor. We express to the children that it is ok to make a mistake because they are beginning to learning. Children do not become frustrated knowing that there is not a lot of pressure on them to do it right the first time.

General School Mission

Our philosophy is to provide a fun filled program designed to stimulate children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth in a positive atmosphere.

The Alameda Recreation and Parks' Preschool Program offers a recreation centered program for children ages 3 to 5 years old (Pre-kindergarten).

Activities include storytelling, games, arts and crafts, cooking, music, motor skills and some free play.

A Typical Day

Circle time - calendar, music

Activities - arts & crafts, free play, puzzles, games, etc.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

We are a park program. Parents spend one day a session working in the classroom.

Teachers are always available to speak with parents after class.

Teachers do their best to keep the parents informed of their child's progress, as well as if they have any concerns.

Parents Say They are Encouraged to:

Separation is Handled through:

  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Handling Separation: From the Director

The first week, parents are allowed to stay 5-10 minutes.
When you leave please do not keep looking into the windows. That does not help your child. Please be sure that we can reach you by phone if it is necessary.
