Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Teacher-Led

From the Director:

Confidence, emotional balance, sensory integration and efficient strategies are crucial to successful learning. These are the internal structures that enable a child to access, analyze, synthesize and utilize information with ease and mimimal stress. At Kachina, we place strong emphasis on helping your child, at the most natural stages, develop these internal structures.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Kachina Country Day School is a very special place for children, and for their parents. We provide an exceptional, one of a kind educational experience for children from preschool through 6th grade (our board is currently working to extend our school through 8th grade). It is designed to ensure the foundations your child needs to unleash potential and realize lifelong success.

A Typical Day

KCDS PV Mission: Kachina Country Day School is commited to providing a safe educational enviornment with levels of instruction and evaluation that will empower all students to attrain their academic and human potential to become useful contributing members of the world community. At Kachina, children don't have to "fit the system". We allow your child the time and space to mature without being judged or compared.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Kachina Country Day School offers a very strong parent/child/school partnership. Parents are key players in a child's growth and development. They are the primary motivators, teachers and role models. Kachina's staff has a wealth of knowledge about child development and the complex process involved in building the foundations for learning. Through parent participation, conferences, meet the teacher nights, ice cream social's, and day to day communications, we establish expectations, share knowledge and solve problems. Children are involved in the process as well, because that's how children learn the life skills of problem solving and goal setting.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Parents in classroom early on
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

All of our preschool students are invited to a Ice Cream Social/Meet the teacher night at the start of the year. In addition to that, our two year old classes begin their first day as a visitation where mom, dad, grandma and grandpa stay with the child to obtain security for the child's first day of school alone. We also recommend home room mothers and montly parent hosted parties. Mom and dad are always welcome to call after drop off and check on child as well as picking up early if needed.
