Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Parents are a child's first, best teacher. We are attempting to create an experience that supports that philosophy. Parent/teacher conferences occur twice a year. Parents are provided with documentation on child progress toward goals in all four developmental domains, not simply cognitive development. These are in addition to regular newlestters and email about classroom activities and home tasks families can do together.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

Separation anxiety is a normal developmental process for young children. Our approach is simple. We provide an opportunity for a classroom visit with parents for preschoolers that allows the child to move through an abbreviated day the first day. Then on their first full day in school, we provide host a Coffee and Kleenex meeting for parents who need additonal support after dropping their children off. Parents are given reports when their children stop crying. Finally for the child who does not adjust quickly we contact parents by phone when their child has stopped crying to ensure peace of mind.
