General Approach to Learning: Montessori

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Heritage Montessori School provides a specially prepared environment for children. The classroom activities range from simple practical life work to more difficult kindergarten level work.
The Montessori method is an approach to education developed by Maria Montessori, an M.D. in Italy in the early 1900's. She believed children learn by interacting with their environment rather than passively having a teacher “teach” them. They learn through discovery using their 5 senses. They develop confidence by mastering the many hands-on activities that gradually increase in difficulty throughout the classroom.
In our program, children are in mixed aged groups of 3-5 year old children. This allows the younger children to learn from the older children while giving the older children reinforcement of their own knowledge.
Children in all programs are respected as individuals and encouraged to advance at their own pace. Teachers monitor progress and introduce appropriate work when a child appears ready.
