Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching
Description of how teachers work with children who are
"behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students
Each child is met 'where they are at', which is part of the developmental philosophy. We provide materials and activities that are open -ended so no matter where a child is at in their growth, they will feel success. If a child is 'behind' a teacher may model or break down the task for the child to feel success. If a child is 'excelling', a teacher may encourage other areas for the child to explore in which they might need growth. It is part of our philosophy that more than just academic performance is important, such as social and emotional growth.
Parents' Comments on Individualized Teaching
Parent #1
Saratoga Presbyterian Preschool is a developmental program that focuses on all areas of growth in a child: social, emotional, physical, academic and spiritual. The goal is to provide a loving, Christian atmosphere where the whole child grows and young families feel welcome. Art, group experiences, dramatic play, science and gardening are just a few of the many areas explored by the children. Cooking is a big component of the program and exposes the children to new foods, their origins and preparation. The school's bi-weekly Gymsters program gives the children a fun way to refine their gross motor and listening skills while learning healthy living through exercise. Other favorite activities include the fire department's pumper truck hosing down the church parking lot and farm field trips.
Parent #2
Because of the small class size and low teacher/child ratio (1:6), all children receive lots of attention. The teachers are so caring and nurturing, they also teach the children manners and respect for others.

Being Savvy Today
My Year of Giving Thanks
A year is such a strange thing. It's hard to define, other than to say that it's (generally) 365 days long, or to assign some notion of time to it. Yet, the truth is, so much happens in a year that all those events and experiences seem enough for
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
