Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are  "behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

Teachers do individual child observations and plan curriculum based on child's needs in classroom. Vary activities to accomodate children.

Parents' Comments on Individualized Teaching

Parent #1
The thing that seems to differentiate this school from others I looked at (and have heard about from friends) is it's strong committment to teacher quality and curriculum planning. Teachers submit lesson plans each week which build on skills the children are focusing on. Lessons are fine-tuned for smaller groups of children based on their individual needs and abilities. While I would not regard this school as having a rigid curriculum, I would say that their intent is to teach children to love to learn. I am constantly amazed by the creative ways they engage my children in subjects that I would have thought far too complex for their ages, which just goes to show me that I picked the right experts for a reason.

Parent #2
There has recently been a change in staff, so I am not as familiar with the second teacher.

Parent #3
Our child's teacher is OUTSTANDING. She is great with the children and parents, and serves as a role-model for other teachers.

Parent #4
I continue to be enormously impressed by the quality of the teachers at our Bright Horizon location. They are terrific about partnering with me to address learning goals or behavior issues with my child. Their suggestions are very insightful so I've learned a lot about how to address particular issues from them. More importantly I love to see how much they obviously care about my child - which is evidenced by how much my child loves them too!

Parent #5
The teachers in this school are fabulous! They are well trained, organized and really care for the children. They come up with very appropriate lesson plans for the kids and tailor them to what the kids seem interested in at the time or are asking alot of questions about.

The teachers were very nice girls, but did not have a handle on the children. Kids were getting hurt a lot and the teacher would never bother to call the parents. We had several talks with the teachers and the administration, but it was like we were speaking a different language. They just smiled and agreed, but never did anything to help.

Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree is one of the many books that our generation has rediscovered upon becoming parents. It's ubiquitous -- found in every library, bookstore, and preschool classroom. And yet, rereading it again for the first time in thirty (or so) years can come as a bit
