Director's Comments on Individualized Teaching

Description of how teachers work with children who are  "behind," "excelling" or "different" from the majority of students

Differences among children are celebrated. Dallas Day School was founded to ensure that children with special needs learn along side children without special needs. Teachers have specific training in modifying and adapting all activities. School and agency administration have an extensive background in both special and gifted education. In collaboration with parents, a specific learning plan is developed for each child with special needs. Periodic assessments are conducted to determine progress. Dallas Day School welcomes individual therapists such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. The agency has a state-of-the-art therapy room for visiting occupational and physical therapists. Specific attention is given to transitioning to the public/private schools and Dallas Day School works with the targeted school to ensure that the child with special needs continues achieving his/her potential.

Parents' Comments on Individualized Teaching

Parent #1
Dallas Day School is lucky to have quality teachers. We are working towards NAYEC accrediation and all hires in the last year have had to meet additional standards than previously were required of the school. In addition, those teachers who were already at DDS are being provided training to rise to these higher standards if they hadn't already achieved that level.

Parent #2
Almost all of our teachers have their CDA and the school will be accredited by then end of this year. We have specialists in creative movement and music. This summer, we are enjoying an African storyteller who is teaching drumming and creative dramatics to the preschool age children.

Get large plastic buckets (or sand buckets if you have lots of really little toys )in a variety of solid colors (red, blue, yellow, green, pink). Ask your child to clean up his/her toys by putting the toys in the bucket corresponding to the color bucket. Great for teaching personal responsibility, color identification, and sorting.
