Parents' Comments on Individualized Teaching
Parent #1
Calvary Nursery school has many children in attendance and there are several teachers collectively involved in this school's day to day routine. They are ALL amazing teachers and work together so nicely together in a team to support all the children; because of the number of children they don't necessarily interact with them all regularly, but when they do, they are exceptionally attentive.

The teaching staff is wonderful at Calvary. Our child's teacher introduced the children to the works of famous artists and poets and was always subtly encouraging the children's' learning without being demanding.

Our daughter's teacher was a master. Within the first two weeks of school she saw that our daughter was weak in gross motor skills, phoned us and sent home a list of suggestions. She then kept us up to date throughout the year. Our daughter's little group of ten was the cutest. They just loved each other, thanks to the teacher. She was always mixing them up, encouraging all to be friends. She had each of their numbers and worked with them all well individually. And she was so creative - the kids loved doing art with her - explored each of the 'masters' - Van Gogh, Matisse, O'Keefe and Monet were all big hits at our house. Welcomed parents in the classroom. Was a good leader. Wrote the best weekly class notes - looked forward to reading what the kids had done each Friday, and most of all the quotes from the kids.

My son absolutely adored his Calvary teacher. She is patient, kind and very engaging. She has a love of art that she shared with the kids. My son was doing art projects inspired by Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keefe and Kandinsky. He absolutely loves art now. They also have an amazing music teacher whom all the kids love. My son wanted a guitar because this teacher plays it. The Calvary teachers do an amazing job of making learning fun so that the kids are intellectually stimulated and are rewarded for their curiosity

I have to rave about Calvary's art and music program! It is clearly viewed as a priority to enrich the musical and art experience for each child at Calvary because the school employs specialists in each area. Art projects presented at school result in precious keepsakes for home and wonderful exposure to artistic mediums for the child. Daily music with piano and / or guitar and singing has always been a favorite for my children. We still have my son's first guitar pick presented as a gift from his devoted music teacher!

I have had three of my children attend Calvary and moved on to Convent and Stuart Hall. Each of them had only the most terrific primary teachers. Besides their 'section' teachers, the school had an art specialist, music teachers (2 actually; one teaching traditional music, and the second was more rock-n-roll music). The Director had chapel with each section once a week (it's a Presbyterian school but the teachings were more non-denominational). And, all holidays were celebrated in meaningful and special ways.

The preschool students are divided into 5 groups according to their birthdays and compatibility, each with their own teacher. I have always noticed how kind and caring the teachers are, yet are very willing to let you know when the child is disruptive or needs some extra attention. They are very good at letting you know what is going on and make it easy to contact them if there are any concerns or questions. Calvary also has a music and art teacher that come in during the week. The children love them and enjoy the chance to sing and create.

I answered this for all teachers the same, as I feel that they really know the children well and are able to quickly identify the children's needs and wants. This school really has great teachers that are very caring and understanding.

Growing Up Too Fast
This photo of my daughter Ramona captures a wistful but joyous moment this past October at a local farm outside of Portland, Oregon. This snapshot memorializes her two front teeth, which she yanked out herself the following week. (As you can see, they're barely

Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
