School Philosophy and Mission
"Akers Academy recognizes the importance of "Active Minds". The need to
successfully manage, contribute, grow and learn from life, demands our minds to be constantly engaged in learning. Our "Active Minds" curriculum stimulates physical, social and intellectual growth.
We strive to develop, enhance and expand our children’s abilities through a
combination of child-initiated activities, teacher directed lessons and experiences.
Child-initiated activities under teacher guidance help children to explore, question and investigate the world and things around them. Teacher lessons
expand our children’s knowledge and abilities by guiding them to new ideas,
experiences and fun while instilling a love of learning.
The basic elements within our Early Childhood Development Program detail
activities within the curriculum and actively demonstrate the progressive building
of developmentally appropriate learning skills in each classroom level, allowing for individual growth and challenge.
Our curriculum has a monthly theme, skills and concepts. Each is enhanced
by stations, games, group and individual activities. Our parents are a part of their
child’s learning day and kept informed through posted lesson plans, daily take
home sheets for our 2’s and under, and weekly newsletters for our Pre-k 3’s and up. Fun events that promote socialization and school spirit infuse
our curriculum with family.
We want you to feel confident in your choice of the best school programs for early childhood development. Akers Academy provides an environment where your child will be safe, secure, cared-for, challenged and happy.
Thank you for your interest in our school. We look forward to enhancing
your child’s active mind."

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
