School Philosophy and Mission
"If you ask family members raising any child to describe that child, you will likely find they each describe the child differently. Even siblings from the same family are unique to themselves in their personalities and stages of development. This is a critical point for families to consider when looking for childcare, and a significant difference when comparing WMU Children's Place Learning Center to other childcare centers in the Kalamazoo area.
Your child's style of learning is unique—and our individualized child-initiated learning curriculum and teaching philosophy tailors learning to each child rather than a "one size fits all" approach typical in childcare centers. WMU Children's Place provides developmentally appropriate activities that reflect your child's learning style. By offering variety, and a staff trained to assess and hone in on your child's developmental milestones, the learning process excels.
The Children's Place has a distinctive philosophy in childcare, with a focus on:
• Individualized Child-Initiated Learning
• Hands-on Experience
• Personal and Social Interaction
• Movement and Physical Development

Being Savvy Today
The Wild Tangle of Grasses
If there was a single photo that could capture my feelings and thoughts about the past year, this would be it. It reminds me to keep looking toward the brightness of the light, even if I am caught in the wild tangle of grasses. This shot reminds me that
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
