School Philosophy and Mission
"We believe…
...that each child has the right to learn through exploratory and imaginative experiences, explore
the arts and participate in an ethnically diverse and culturally rich environment. We feel
that children excel when their experiences take place in a supportive and nurturing environment
which challenges them but also allows them to grow and develop at their own pace in their own
unique way.
...that parents and family are a child's first teacher and an integral part of their early development.
Our goal is to support families and help them to be the parents they want to be through
workshops, conferences, and resource sharing.
...that play is the work of children. The PJC Jr. Child Development Center provides a safe
environment for children to make choices, and a welcoming atmosphere that challenges each
child to ask the questions of childhood: "What?" "Why?" "How?" We also provide opportunities
for children to answer those same questions through hand-on experiences and specifically designed
learning centers.
...a child who is given respect as an individual and the freedom to make choices with appropriate
limits and consequences, is a child who will flourish.
We offer social interactions, large and small motor activities, math, science, sensory and social
activities. We encourage language and pre-reading skills through a print rich environment and
help children to gain their sense of accomplishment from the process of the work as well as the
product."

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
