School Philosophy and Mission

"Our mission is to educate the human potential. We utilize multiage groupings which allow teachers to develop long lasting relationships and to understand each child's different learning style. ". . . the child, having absorbed the world by an unconscious kind of intelligence, now 'lays his hand' to it." Maria Montessori
It also allows older students to become role-models which helps them to develop leadership skills. They are mentors to younger students who aspire to be like them. The curriculum materials are specially designed for a multisensory learning experience. They are self-correcting which need minimal teacher intervention. This develops a child's self-esteem. Traditionally, schools pay little attention to children as individuals, other than to demand that they adapt to our standards. Dr. Montessori argued that the educator's job is to serve the child; determining what each one needs to make the greatest progress. To her, a child who fails in school should not be blamed, any more than a doctor should blame a patient who does not get well fast enough. After all, it is the job of the physician to help us find the way to cure ourselves, and the educators job to facilitate the natural process of learning.
