School Philosophy and Mission

"43rd Street Kids is a safe, creative place where children are encouraged to make their own discoveries. We believe that in early childhood, learning can and should take place in a social community. We provide a supportive environment where children can interact with other children, adults, and materials. At the same time we hope to foster a sense of community among the children, as members of their class and the school. We strive to provide an early education that is non-sexist and reflective of our community's ethnic, cultural and economic diversity.

Students and their families become part of a warm, nurturing community. We believe it is important for parents to play an active role in their children’s early education. Family pot luck suppers and holiday parties give people a chance to share a meal and a good time with other 43rd Street Kids’ families.

It is our belief that we are all learners. Children learn from each other, teachers and the other adults in their lives. Teachers and parents learn from each other, the children and the outside resources that are made available through the school.

We encourage each child to learn and develop at his or her own individual rate. Our goal for each child is overall development shown through an increase in his or her social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills." (SOURCE: http://www.43rdstreetkids.org)
