School Philosophy and Mission
"The Butterhill Day School realizes the needs of families are many faceted and has designed a program to serve as many of these needs as possible.
Our child care services are a very important aspect of a child's development and the child's family. They are designed to supplement the love and affection, the teaching and playing - that the child receives at home. Always, the aim is to contribute to the happy, healthy development of the child and the well being of the family.
To this end, the Butterhill program balances:
OUTDOOR WITH INDOOR ACTIVITIES
GROUP MEETINGS WITH PRIVATE TIMES
ACTIVE PLAY WITH QUIET ACTIVITIES
STRUCTURED PERIODS WITH FREE CHOICE TIMES CHILD INITIATED/TEACHER DIRECTED PROJECTS
WARM PHYSICAL AFFECTION WITH ENCOURAGEMENT TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE.
We encourage children to be independent physically (in dressing, eating, personal hygiene etc.) and intellectually (in learning to question and make judgments).
We seek to provide children with a secure emotional base through lots of loving, individual attention and familiar routines from which they can learn to respect themselves and others.
We encourage children to be always thoughtful and considerate through the daily interactions of teachers and children.
The Butterhill Day School is a warm and friendly place to be for both children and adults. We welcome new people and new ideas.
