School Philosophy and Mission
"One of the most important things parents can give their children is a love of learning — it's a gift that will last a lifetime. At North Shore Day School, one of the premier preschools on Long Island's north shore, teaching children to love learning is the foundation of our educational philosophy. From it stems self-confidence and positive social interactions with peers — vital building blocks in early childhood development.
In our more than fifty years as an educational center for children ages two to five, we have provided a nurturing, warm and stimulating environment where children love to come to learn about the world around them. North Shore Day School is located on fourteen acres of a former estate, and classes are held in a magnificent renovated mansion and outbuildings, with lots of room for a variety of activities. Overlooking the Long Island Sound and near a nature preserve, our school is the optimal setting for children to safely explore their environment.
One of the most important elements that sets our school apart is our highly nurturing environment. We recognize that children need different amounts of time and attention in order to thrive in our setting, and each child's needs are addressed on an individual basis.
In addition, we know how important it is to make children feel safe and comfortable in their environment. To achieve this, we work in tandem with parents for a comfortable transition from home to school. Parents are welcome to visit the school at any time, to spend time with their children, to speak to teachers and administrators, and to visit our parent reference library. North Shore Day School is a place where the entire family — not just the child — can feel good about the learning experience.
