School Philosophy and Mission
"At Albany Preschool, children are treated with respect and direct their own play activities in a rich, varied environment. Professional staff and parents work together to create a child-centered program addressing the varied physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of the children. Each day, children experience self-directed play in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. As they explore and manipulate their world, children gain confidence in their growing abilities. This learning is enhanced through conversations with other children and caring, involved adults. The role of the teachers is to provide a learning environment that is both challenging and nurturing. As a cooperative community of learners, Albany Preschool recognizes the importance of ongoing education for its adult members. Parent education, staff development, and parent involvement facilitates this learning.

Being Savvy Today
The Wild Tangle of Grasses
If there was a single photo that could capture my feelings and thoughts about the past year, this would be it. It reminds me to keep looking toward the brightness of the light, even if I am caught in the wild tangle of grasses. This shot reminds me that
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
