"At Rabbit Hill School we believe that children are the promise of the future. Our school is not only a place to learn academics, but also a place to discover that every child is unique and has unlimited potential. We believe that by implementing the following beliefs, we can unlock that potential in every child.
BUILD SELF-RESPECT
a. Praise progress and effort, not just final result
b. Process is more important than final product
TEACH THEM TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES
a. Structure the choices
b. Reward the choice made
c. Emphasize alternative choices
EXPECT CHILDREN TO GIVE THEIR BEST
a. Children are self-fulfilling prophecies; they give what is expected
TEACH PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS
(Problems are challenges to accept, not disasters to avoid)
a. Present challenges that can be conquered with effort
b. Reward the effort and present a new challenge
c. Each new challenge should further stretch the child's abilities
TEACH CHILDREN TO ACT POSITIVELY RATHER THAN REACT NEGATIVELY
a. Find solutions instead of blame
TEACH RISK-TAKING
a. Take initiative in trying
b. Praise the effort and ignore the failure
c. Make the failure a learning experience
d. Do not punish a mistake made from honest effort
CATCH THEM DOING THE RIGHT THINGS!
TEACH THEM TO BUILD SELF-RESPECT IN OTHERS
