School Philosophy and Mission
"The Shim Academy is more that just another Child Care Center. We at the Shim Academy instill in our students that learning is a life long process. We realize that the children have a natural spontaneous love of learning and natural desire to work. This is why we have committed ourselves to provide the environment, materials and the right conditions to which children will establish good work habits. The Shim Academy offers a positive atmosphere where children will develop self-confidence, self-esteem, independence, and self-discipline. They may choose to work with the Montessori material alone or with a partner, in doing so, the children will acknowledge their accomplishments and learn through their own efforts. Through movement, manipulation, and working with the material, the children will develop a sense of logic and order creating a firm foundation for future learning. The Shim Academy's goal is to develop sound bodies, stout hearts, and alert minds. The Montessori Method coupled with our unique blend of Eastern Philosophy education will provide the children with moral stamina and emotional durability needed to face the challenges that life will present. We strongly feel that within every child, there lies a uniqueness ready to explode, and each child is its own special creation and individual which can only blossom once given the freedom"

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
