School Philosophy and Mission
"The Philosophy of our program is based on the belief that children learn through their interaction with adults, other children and their environment. Supportive interactions lead the child to a positive self-concept that will provide a sound basis for all subsequent learning. The program focuses on the development of the whole child. It is designed to enhance the social emotional cognitive, physical and creative growth of the child. We emphasize the importance of working cooperatively with parents to achieve that goal. The child development theories that guide the program are those of Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson. Piaget teaches us that children construct their knowledge of the worlds through their activities and interactions. Erickson describes the young child's emotional development as the process of achieving a sense of trust, autonomy and initiative. These, too, are achieved through the child's interaction and experience. The program emphasizes developmental appropriateness by meeting children's individual needs and by using knowledge or normal child development. The appropriateness is express by the environment and interaction in each group's classroom.
