School Philosophy and Mission

"Children's Place offers a variety of learning experiences designed to stimulate children intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially. The Montessori Method begins with a carefully prepared environment which encourages children's innate curiosity and responds to each child's interests and abilities. Our structured atmosphere creates a climate capable of meeting children's needs for freedom while providing the security of limits.

Our multi-purpose room provides space for enrichment activities in art, music, movement, computers, cooking, woodworking and foreign language. Our acre of play area includes a large climbing structure, a variety of swings, a paved bike path, a soccer field and sandbox. Our indoor play area includes construction toys, trains, housekeeping area, blocks and board games.

Of primary importance is the child's self esteem. Our certified, experienced staff creates a warm and accepting atmosphere through which children develop a respect and appreciation for individual differences.

Children's Place Montessori was established in 1985. We have an open enrollment policy and accept children ages 3 through 6 without regard to race, religion or national origin. You are invited to make an appointment to observe our classrooms at your convenience.

Typical Day-In-The-Life At This School

"Daily Schedule

School Year

7:00 - 9:00 The children enjoy puzzles, table top toys, computers and board games in the multipurpose room or construction toys (legos, construx), blocks and trains in the gym. Before 8:00, they may have breakfast brought from home.

9:00 – 11:00 Class time. The children are in the Montessori classrooms working with the materials on the shelves and working with their teachers in small “lesson groups. Often demonstrations and other activities geared to help the children develop independence, order, concentration and coordination occur at this time as well.

11:00 - 11:30 Special classes introduce the children to a variety of skills.

11:30 – 12:00 Lunch. We eat lunch in the gym. Lunches are usually brought from home. Items requiring refrigeration or microwaving should be separated from the children's lunch boxes by the parents so that the staff can have it ready for the children when they sit down to eat. On Fridays, we have a pizza lunch which includes all the cheese pizza they want, cheesy bread, a fruit, a vegetable and juice. The cost for this lunch is $2.50 and is optional.

Nappers / Resters - Children who benefit from sleep or quiet time.

12:00 – 12:45 The children enjoy a relaxed play time. We usually go outside to the playground, but during inclement weather, we divide into three groups and play indoors in the multipurpose room, gym or watch a video. Our playground is used during all four seasons. We have a sledding hill for winter fun; a water slide keeps us cool during the summer; slides, swings, bikes, a soccer field and a play structure provide plenty of options during the all the seasons.

12:45 – 1:00 Story time and prepare for nap/rest time.

1:00 – 2:00 or 2:30 Rest/Nap Time – Children that usually nap are given an opportunity to sleep until 2:30. Children that do not usually nap listen to stories for a half hour and then listen to music for a half hour. If they fall asleep, they may continue to sleep.

2:00 – 3:30 Classtime - The children get up at 2:00 and have class time. As the others awaken, they join the class in progress.

Classers - Children who benefit from additional class time.

12:00 – 12:30 The children enjoy a relaxed play time. 4:15 – 5:00 The children usually spend this time outdoors on the playground.

If there was a single photo that could capture my feelings and thoughts about the past year, this would be it. It reminds me to keep looking toward the brightness of the light, even if I am caught in the wild tangle of grasses. This shot reminds me that
