School Philosophy and Mission
"Our Montessori school is based on the philosophy and curriculum of Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator. Born in 1870, she developed a method of educating children. She devoted her life to this work.
Specific educational practices found in Montessori programs include multi-age groupings, a focus on global education, careful design of the teaching/learning environment, and classroom materials, to name a few.
In mixed age group settings children learn from one another, gain autonomy, and develop positive self-esteem. In addition, having a cultural diverse mix in our classrooms helps prepare children to accept, respect, and understand the diversity in our society. We create communities where everyone learns, plays/works, shares, and celebrates together.
Learning about oneself is part of learning about others. Learning is not about winning or competition. Growth occurs in a non-judgmental community where freedom for the individual is balanced with the needs of the group."
