Home-School Connection
Director's Comments
JKPS uses our school website, supplemented by written correspondence, to communicate with parents. Classroom updates and activity calendars are provided monthly. Individual Parent-Teacher conferences are held midyear for all students. Additionally, critical individual concerns are addressed privately in a timely fashion.
Our open-door policy encourages parent involvement in the classroom. Regularly scheduled special activities are spaced throughout the year to encourage parent participation and develop our school community.
Separation
Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
- Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Director's Comments
It is expected that many children, particularly our youngest students, will begin the school year with separation issues. We open our school year with a Meet & Greet activity where parents spend part of a school day in the classroom with their child. Once regular classes begin, we individualize attention to monitor separation issues, and occasionally request an abbreviated schedule for the first few days of school to develop children's sense of security in our environment.

Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
