Director's Comments
We offer an OPEN HOUSE for children and their parents to visit the school and meet teachers. We encourage parents to say 'good-bye' and reassure children they will be returning at the end of the day. We also welcome parent phone calls throughout the day to check on their child. Quick separation from parent to child has effectively worked in our program with the child immediately getting engaged in an activity.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Because my children have been in daycare since they were babies, we didn't have to worry about any kind of preschool separation.
Parent #2
My experience with separation was that the teachers would take my crying child and encourage me to leave quickly. Usually, my child was done crying by the time I got in my car. This method worked fairly quickly and I always knew my child was fine and was able to participate properly.
Parent #3
Giant Steps has done a wonderful job at keeping me informed of my daughters daily performance as well as how she has progressed throughout the year. We are also given monthly newsletters reminding us about specific upcomming events.
Parent #4
At Giant Steps, we have always felt welcome to come in at any time, to participate, to volunteer, to be included, whatever. Basically, the amount of parent involvement is up to the parent. If you want to be involved, then the school welcomes you with open arms. However, the school does not demand extra time at all. It is strictly up to the parent, and the school is happy with whatever level of involvement is chosen. Also, the school probably does have formal conferences when necessary; however, we have never needed or desired one. We are given formal report cards at the end of each period. Further, we are able to speak with the teachers everyday. Further, lots of school work comes home. Assessment, therefore, is a daily event.

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
