Director's Comments

Our parent communication occurs on many different levels. We provide newsletters from each classroom, informational parent meetings in the evening, a beginning of the school year social and parent in-services with experts in the field of child development. Parents can openly communicate with teachers at drop-off and pick-up times and can arrange meetings with the teachers or director at any time. There is also a parent-teacher conference once a year. We also offer speech and language screening to interested families. We also provide guidance as to whether a child may benefit from a pre-kindergarten program or a regular kindergarten program.

Separation

OVERALL RATING (4.5)
Four And Half Stars

Beginning of the year separation is handled through:

- Extra staff dedicated to handle seperation

- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school

Director's Comments

We have extra staff and the director in the classrooms to help the lead teacher. The classrooms are always set up before the children arrive with many enticing activities and the teachers help direct the children towards the activities. Reluctant children are encouraged to observe the others at play and children with more serious separation anxiety get gentle one-on-one attention with much reassurance. Parents are asked to say goodbye by 9:10am so that their child may accomplish the task of separation quickly and with greater success.

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
I specifically chose a school that did not encourage drop-in visits as I feel that children at this age need to learn how to be independent and accomplish the task of separation in a small, loving and nurturing environment before going on to a larger elementary school. Both my children gained a huge amount of self confidence and self reliance by going through this process.

Parent #2
I wish that we were provided a schedule of class topics/subjects to be covered during class time. When I pick my child up after each session, I have to ask her what activities were on the agenda for the day/week. I feel that if I knew what's going on in the classroom that day, I could augment her classroom experience with activities done at home.
