Director's Comments
A big plus for a co-op school is that you will see your child interact with teachers, other adults and children. You really know what is happening. Also you have more contact with the teacher and more time for informal conversations about your child. Formal conferencing is scheduled at the parent's request. Parent education meetings are
provided.
Separation
| OVERALL RATING (5.0) |
Beginning of the year separation is handled through:
- Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
- Parents in classroom early on

Parents' Comments
Parent #1
There is ongoing dialogue between the Director, Teacher and parents at Sequoia. I've been very pleased with their ability to ease my child through separation.
Parent #2
We have 3 mandatory evening meetings each year.
Parent #3
The director and teacher feel that it's important for both parents and child to be comfortable and allow the parents as much time as necessary in the school for that to happen.
Parent #4
Sequoia is a co-op so the home school connection is excellent. Every parent knows just what goes on at school and has full access to teachers when questions arise.
Parent #5
Since Sequoia is a co-op, and parents work 1 day/week, it lessens the separation anxiety aspect. I never experienced it with my child, but if a child is experiencing some anxiety, the parent is welcome to stay until whatever time the child feels comfortable. Potential situations are helped by teacher interaction and direction of the child's activities, to distract them, while still making the child feel comfortable. A parent is never required to leave, and can even stay to help out on a day they do not have to work.
Parent #6
This is a play based preschool and although there are some guides and educational goals the emphasis is on introducing the ideas and letting the child go on their own journey. there are a lot of resources presented to parents but we are encouraged to make our own choices for our children. The teachers and board members are very accessible.
Parent #7
There is not a lot of formal written communication because parents are in the classroom at least weekly and so are well aware of what goes on during the school day. The teachers are very accessible to talk to at any time.
Drop-in Policy
- During school parents are welcomed as the school has an open door policy

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
