Director's Comments
First, before starting, a new child comes on a few orientation visits with a parent. Then the first few days are shorter days. We help the child feel as comfortable as possible, and teachers actively help transition the child.

I didn't answer some of the questions because 1) we haven't yet reached the end of the school year, 2) I don't remember certain things that happened at the beginning of the year. Also, the separation issue wasn't handled by any of the ways the survey suggests. My very shy daughter (who blossomed into an involved and outgoing person very quickly at this school) had a hard time for the first few days and the teachers just sat with her and held her and distracted her in a very loving way as I left the school each morning. Also, I don't know what you mean by 'dropping in.' Parents can and do come to the school at any time, but I haven't tried to stay there and hang out . . . I don't know if people do that or not.

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
