Savvy Source's Comments
"We partner with parents and guardians to encourage healthier families, build a foundation for lifelong achievement and open doors to a rewarding future. We have developed an effective response and communication team to work with families. Our Case Manager, two Intake Coordinators, Social Worker, Mental Health Consultant, two Site Supervisors, Community Health Worker, as well as our Reception and Kitchen staff work to provide day-to-day support, services and referral information for further community assistance. Coming Home Family Support Center services can include: Counseling services Assistance in the form of vouchers or gift cards that may be used at Safeway, Goodwill, or Target Stores Our excellent Kitchen staff also supplements on-site breakfast and lunch food service with nutritious take-home items Clothes and other household goods (often from generous donors) Annual hearing, vision and dental screenings at no cost to the children or their families All of this effort is focused on our firm belief that healthier, stronger, more competent families mean healthier, stronger, more competent learners. That is the goal of Coming Home Family Support Center." Extracted from Holy Family Day Home's website, 2006

Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Our son and very little separation issues b/c the school encouraged him to visit on a weekly basis for a month before he started.
Parent #2
My son is in the Infant Care Program at Holy Family Day Home. The answers to the questions above are specific to his age (6 months). HFDH also offers a true pre-school program for older children (through Kindergarten) at a different site, which would handle these types of things differently and more appropriately for the older kids. Some of the issues raised here (curriculum, etc.) are not applicable to a child of my son's age. I wholeheartedly recommend HFDH to anyone looking for infant care, and trust that their pre-school care is superior as well.
Parent #3
Excellent school for those wanting their kid to be exposed to kids from other ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Being Savvy Today
Travel Stories for Kids
Our preschoolers are a few years away from geography homework (thank goodness!). But still, we think this age is a perfect time to add a few new geography-ish books to a child's library. We're thinking, especially, of books that will transport us (parents and kids together) to places
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
