I do not know that there is a procedure to deal with separation. But all of the above options are available. We never utilized them.

The school states that it provides daily feedback in the form of written progress notes to parents, weekly sheets "what your children are learning", and biannual individual meetings. In reality, this only occurs in some classrooms, and for the past 2 of the 3 years our child has been at Callier, the teachers have not provided any progress notes (they try but are overwhelmed and not capable, so the notebooks are empty), the weekly preprinted sheets do not provide any specific information as to what our child has been doing, and the biannual meetings are written the week before and do not provide a useful summary-- merely a list of "core observations" from the week before. As an example, they note that he can recognize a few letters -- when he's been READING at home. We've been particularly troubled when explaining to Callier that it is important to us that our son focus on specific activities (e.g. drawing, painting), and have seen these available in the classroom, but the teachers tell us that if he does not CHOOSE these activities, the High-Scope model does not ALLOW them to encourage him enough for us to see any results (over 2 years). We've kept our son at this school because he's doing so well academically at home (because of the time we spend teaching him), and because the parents and other children are wonderful. To be fair, the first year we were at Callier, we had a superb teacher who fulfilled all promises the school made.

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
