The environment is different than a normal preschool because it is part of a much larger community. This has some impact on the parent community and communication. There is formal communication and the more informal through class parent discussion & emails.

FAIS is a pre-k through 8th grade school. The teachers and administration are helpful if you express concern that the bilingual program will not work for your family and child in later grades. The admissions staff do encourage and hope that families who are enrolling at the pre-k level consider continuing. My son has had some separation issues this year. I handle it by dropping off and leaving quickly. The teacher or assistant teacher comforts him and tries to involve him in other activities. At the end of the day he comes home singing French songs and telling me what words he learned in French. It's very exciting to witness how quickly kids can acquire another language.

This was not my son's first 'schooling' experience. He was very excited to be at his 'new school' so the transition, and separation were not too much of an issue. For the younger kids, I have seen the teachers be very loving and kind. Holding and comforting the child when mommy or daddy was gone.

This school is a wonderfully tight knit community. Children start as early as nursery school and can complete 8th grade there. It is a joy to see the older kids, and how loving they are with their former teachers.

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
