Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The Dallas International School is a wonderful teaching environment for kids to learn and grow in while advancing their language skills. I am so happy with our choice to send our son - and neither of us speak French. We speak a little Spanish. But that really doesn't matter. The school offers language classes for the parents if they wish to learn along side the child. What a great idea and great school it is.
Parent #2
As the school is based on a cooperative model, parents are expected to be hands on in a big way. If you want to just drop your kid off and not be bothered, this is NOT your school! BUT if you really want to be an integral part of your child's preschool experience, you want to be able to feel welcome to be present at ANY time during school, you want your child to be able to look back and remember you BEING THERE, you want to watch your child's day to day activities and progress by being present for the whole school day (not just a special event day), you want to meet their peers and get to know the other families well, this is your school.
Parent #3
We had several positive relationships with our daughter's teachers at the school, but we believe the administration is out of touch and archaic in their dealings with parents and students. The preschool and elementary director does not seem to embrace learning differences among children, and often the students who need the most attention are ignored, while teachers and administration freely spend time concentrating on preschoolers' behavior. This school has unrealistic expectations of children in preschool, and the curriculum is definitely in need of fine tuning. The administration has driven away several fine teachers and teachers' aides.
Parent #4
The students have a number of teachers (English, Art, French, Spanish), so communication can be difficult as you are not sure who the primary teachers is. This has been addressed this year.

seperation was handled well

I was the Room Parent for my son's class and the Room Parents and Coordinator are the liasons between the teachers and the parents. I arranged several times this year for our parents to volunteer with class activities.
Parent #3
Serving day every month, where parent brings snakc and child gets special 'serving child' seat and everyone thanks them. Every child also gets a 'birthday serving day' if they want it (even summer birthdays.)
Parent #4
Have marvelous field trips!
Parent #5
We have a very supportive parent community. Might I add that there are even French/English speaking social gatherings to practice language skills.

The preschool is a coop where parent sare expected to participate, and are welcome at any time. There is extremely open access to communicate with staff and virtually unlimited access for parents to observe and interact at teh school.
Parent #2
Communication at DIS is awful. Large lag times between parents, teachers and administration.

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
