Director's Comments
I do a curriculum workshop at the beginning of the year for all new parents to educate them about appropriate expectations for preschool children and to explain our approach to early childhood education (developmental rather than academic). I'm available every day for parents to express their concerns about their children. We have a group discussion at the beginning of our monthly general meeting where we address the kids' developmental concerns. During the year we have several guest speakers at our meetings who address specific concerns about kids. I also have parent/teacher conferences.Parents with older kids in elementary school share their experiences at various schools.

We encourage parents to stay as many mornings with their children as is required to help the kids and parents feel comfortable and safe at school. If a parent needs help separating (clingy child), I or a working parent the child is comfortable with will hold the child and try to engage the child in a fun activity (an activity the child enjoys). Separation objects from home are sometimes helpful. If a child is inconsolable, the parent is notified.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The sense of community that is formed is very strong. Our families are very connected both at school and at home. Alumni visit the school each year for an annual Halloween party and at other times too.
Parent #2
Parent -run coops are the ultimate in 'home-school' connection-- I feel my daughter has a second home now!
Parent #3
HACNS includes parents in every aspect of the children's preschool experience. While a play-based program, it is so enriching for the preschool age set that they go on to kindergarten ready to learn and absorb their experiences.

We are a cooperative preschool, so all parents work at the school 1 day per week. We have a lot of contact with the teacher during our teaching days.
Parent #2
Issues related to specific children are brought up by the teacher at the monthly parent participation meetings.

A Great Book Rhymes!
Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
