Director's Comments

Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?

Our school is small, and has a home-like atmosphere, while retaining all the good things about a classroom. We spend large parts of each day outdoors, either on walks, at the nearby parks, or in our own large fenced in grassy yard. Our activities are many, and the children are encouraged and allowed to choose from a wide variety of these each day. We have art and music, informal "lessons" in Cantonese, lots of learning of social niceities, and many sponteneous lessons in counting, letter recognition, and science. We love to plant things and watch them grow...and eat our harvests, too. We learn how to get along, but best of all, we have plain old fun every day!

Parents' Comments

Parent #1
After spending 2 years with a nanny, we felt our daughter would benefit from more socialization with other kids her age before entering a more formal preschool program. Our daughter had a lot of separation anxiety, and I was uncertain that she would transition well into this new, larger (away from home) environment. Ashley and her staff worked with my daughter to gain her trust and make her feel "at home." Now my daughter runs to the daycare providers and hugs them each morning, and is never happy to see me when I come to pick her up (because she wants to stay at Ashley's longer). The care at Ashley's is unparalleled and we will miss everyone when we move on to preschool next fall.

Another strength of Ashley's is the outside space. It is HUGE with several play structures, 2 large sandboxes, lots of ride-on toys, and a large grassy area. I have visited many daycares (both in-home and centers) as well as preschools and this remains the best outdoor space I have seen!

Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
