Parents' Comments

Parent #1
My kids have been in Bean Sprouts (either the pre-school or the after-school program) for 5 years. I could not ask for a better experience and feel like the Bean Sprouts staff is a second family to us. This is our last year with Bean Sprouts and I am very sad to be leaving this community.

Parent #2
This is a competent daycare with a nice community. We had one very strong and one very weak teacher, so our experience was mixed. I felt that Beansprouts was run like a business more than a school, and that cut into my good feeling about it. There were very nice things about it, but it wasn't everything it could be in terms of nurturing and creating community. However, many of the teachers there are wonderful and we were pretty happy.

Parent #3
They need to send the children home in the same clean condition as they were brought to school in, for example: washed hands and face, removed sand from shoes. There needs to be more cohesion of parent community.

Parent #4
The weaknesses of this school: More feedback specific to child would be helpful. Greater opportunities to see classroom interaction would be appreciated. More details in parent teacher conferences.

The strengths of this school are: Organized. Well structured curriculum. Classroom contains everything it needs for developing curiosity and learning .

Parent #5
The strengths of this school are clearly the teachers. For the most part, they are highly competent, positive and motivated people who love children. We had a particularly great experience in that our teacher for the 2's class continued with us through 3's class. The continuity was beneficial to my child who had a difficult time with changes at that time. The weaknesses of this school are the administration. The admissions process, and the process by which classes are formed seems haphazard, and at times unfair. You may receive a different story from one administrator than you receive from another, and I have heard many instances where different parents ask the same question and receive different answers. As a parent with a second child about to enter the process, we had hoped that we would not have to go through the trauma of admissions again, however, we are told we will not receive any special consideration, and must go through the entire process again for our second child. We'll put up with it to give our second child the same experience as our first.

Parent #6
I have no complaints about what goes on in the classroom. Beansprous offers a safe, warm, and stimulating environment for kids and my child loved the school. I was somewhat discontented with the administration. The place is run somewhat like a factory: all same age classes do the same projects the same week, with little responsiveness to individual/class interests. Also, part-time students (2-3 days per week) miss out on a lot of activities the full-timers (5 days/ week) get: swimming, trips (3s and 4s).

Parent #7
A wonderful, nurturing community school. Perhaps not the most imaginative or strenuous curriculum, but certainly well-planned and enthusiastically executed. The teachers in training from St. Joseph's college are a great addition to the classroom.

Parent #8
It is just a great school all around. We were told that the school is good for very active, hands-on kids. Each week is filled with great activities - cooking, swimming, music, movement, trips to museums, puppet shows, etc.

Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and
