Director's Comments
Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
Make several visits after you decide to enroll. Visit at different times of day with your child. All visits need to be scheduled in advance.
Parents' Comments

Need more parents to review school

Facilities are not good, toys are very limited, the gym is a big basketball court with no toys nor facilities.
Teachers are generally all nice and hard working, but they don't practice safe to sleep rules for the infant program.
The director doesn't handle concerns/conflict very well, parents concerns are not addressed.

ICRI has many fabulous teachers who obviously care about the children. Classes have a nice mix of play and instruction. The courtyard and gym allow the children to run around, even on rainy days.
Formal communication with parents could be better. There used to be a regular parent newsletter--now it's less informative and less frequent. Parent-teacher conferences should be more regular and frequent. Director's communication with parents can be curt.
Fees have increased dramatically, yet some services have decreased. On top of hiking the tuition, they added a $300 "materials fee" (including for infants!) though artwork is often done on the reverse side of someone's used office paper. While I'm happy to see office paper scraps reused, I'd like some accounting for the materials fee.

ICRI of Alameda is wonderful environment for a child. I have never felt uncomfortable about leaving my daughter in their care. She is always excited to go to school. She has learned how to count to ten, knows her alphabet, colors and shapes. She can spell her name. My daughter is two years old.

A definite strength of this school are its' teachers, from the Director on down. The school may not have the newest toys and equipment, but most important to us is the fact that our child's teachers are all so gentle and nurturing and fair. We are comforted knowing that our child is in their care, and well taken care of.

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
