Director's Comments
Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
Discovery Montessori is based in this community since 1983. The school experience is introduced as an extension of home life. This is reinforced with home visits by teachers, parent volunteer activities and events, as well as a newsletter and parent meetings.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
School is excellent. Wonderful teachers - skilled and caring. Fantastic classrooms and materials...plus evolving enrichment programs (such as music, language, dance). We've been part of the school for over 2 years - we feel lucky our son is there.
Parent #2
I love this school. It's an extremely nurturing environment for both of my kids. My son has had some typical boy issues, mainly with focus and the ability to want to work vs. play, and the staff have been extremely patient, encouraging, and have helped him to develop his love of learning. The community continues to get stronger each year. Great place to have your kids.
Parent #3
This is a great school! Great teachers, great atmosphere. The LONGEST session is from 8:45-3:15pm.
NOTE: They following the same school breaks at the Seattle Public School, however, so you have to plan for backup childcare or take your vacations then. You pay monthly regardless of school breaks.

Strengthes: Supportive, kid-centered philosphy, very experienced principle and teachers, strong community of families, positive discipline with a focus on developing independence, nice kids, excellent music program Weaknesses: This is not an accelerated curriculum, though there is individual attention to children's own levels. If you want to push early true academics at the expense of movement and play, that is not the focus.
Parent #5
When the kids leave the school, they have an incredible ability to focus, follow directions and are excited about learning. Most are very ready for Kindergarten.

Being Savvy Today
The Giving Tree: An Appreciation
Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree is one of the many books that our generation has rediscovered upon becoming parents. It's ubiquitous -- found in every library, bookstore, and preschool classroom. And yet, rereading it again for the first time in thirty (or so) years can come as a bit

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
